National Community partner

How do I become a National Community partner of The Warehouse?

National fundraising is undertaken in conjunction with our financial year and runs from 1 August - 31 July. During this calendar period we run five national fundraising campaigns through our store network, raising money for organisations that enhance the lives of families with young children and teenagers such as our current partners - Variety - The Childrens Charity, Life Education Trust, Youthline, The Parenting Place and Womens Refuge.

Campaigns consist of the charity providing a small item to sell at checkouts e.g. pens or scratch and win tickets (or something similar). For our part we will distribute the product, market the campaign through our mailer and in-store radio and sell the product on behalf of our partners at the checkout. All money taken at the checkout goes directly to the Community partner; we do not deduct any costs. Each campaign runs for four weeks.

Each year we invite national, New Zealand based organisations to apply and be part of a selection process to be considered to be one of our national Community partners. Organisations may also approach us direct. We work with Community partners that have specific projects which will "enhance the lives of families with young children and teenagers in a tangible way. We do not support Community organisations with their day-to-day running costs. We commence this process in late January with the first campaign of the new financial year commencing each August.

In particular we look at organisations who fulfill the following criteria:

  1. The organisation must qualify according to the Preliminary Assessment Form (PAF)
    • If you have applied to go onto our database you will receive this form as part of the selection process. If you complete and return this PAF to us within the allotted time and to our satisfaction, you have fulfilled this requirement.
  2. Enhance the lives of families with young children and teenagers throughout New Zealand.
    • o Projects must provide tangible benefits directly to those people who the charity supports with specific emphasis on how this will enhance the lives of young people and their families.
  3. The organisation must fit The Warehouse brand profile and values - national, Kiwi, offering a wide benefit, with potential links into communities:
    • Almost everyone in the country visits The Warehouse at some point. The majority of New Zealanders shop with us regularly.
    • We prefer to support charities which provide benefit to as many Kiwis as possible
    • The Warehouse has 92 stores across New Zealand. Therefore, the charity must conduct activities that impact from Kaitaia to Invercargill.
    • We are looking for an organisation that is compatible in terms of personality and scale and who will have the resources to be able to run a national campaign through our stores.
  4. There should be overall potential to raise the profile of both The Warehouse's Community partnerships and the partners activities:
    • The activities of the Community partner are extremely important. Also imperative is the ability to market/communicate your cause and engage our team members/customers in order to generate ongoing future support, and for The Warehouse to be acknowledged for that support as part of a true partnership.
  5. The organisation must have an understanding of store operations, e.g. know how to minimise disruption to trading:
    • The primary purpose of The Warehouse is to help New Zealanders save more every day through an easy shopping experience.
    • Our team is busy keeping our stores running smoothly so the fundraising campaign has the greatest chance of success if it is easy to understand, administer and expedite.
