Plunket and The Warehouse team up to provide essential newborn items for Kiwi families

More than 2,000 Kiwi families across the country will receive a baby essentials pack for their newborn baby, thanks to funds raised through The Warehouse’s Pedal for Plunket campaign.

Each item has been hand-picked by Plunket nurses, and includes everything essential for caring for a new-born baby - including blankets, sleepwear, warm clothing, muslin wraps, nappies, wipes and toys.

Each year Plunket nurses see over 85% percent of families in New Zealand with newborn babies, 5% of whom are born into families facing particularly difficult and complex circumstances.

“Approximately 2,400 Baby Essential Packs, which equals about 5% of the 50,000 new babies born in New Zealand every year are identified by Plunket, with our nurses able to deliver these Baby Essential Packs to those who need it the most,” says Plunket Partnership Manager Lara Schonberger.

“This initiative will give support to families-in-need, and in turn helping our youngest Kiwi kids get the best possible start to life.”

The Warehouse Community Project Manager Bronwyn Clayden says the 2400 baby essentials packs have been made possible thanks to the generous support of The Warehouse customers during this year’s Pedal for Plunket fundraising campaign.

“We’re so grateful for the support of our generous customers and team members in helping to make this possible,” says Bronwyn.

“All parents know that having a new baby is an incredibly joyful event, but it can also be demanding, particularly for new parents where so much is unknown. Through our partnership with Plunket, we’ve been able to supply products which will benefit new-borns the most and help to make a real difference for families in need,” she says.

Pedal for Plunket is an annual national fundraising initiative between The Warehouse and Plunket.

During March this year, stationary bikes were set up in all 92 The Warehouse stores and team members and customers were encouraged to donate a gold coin to ride a kilometre in support of Plunket or add a dollar to their purchase at The Warehouse stores nationwide.
